![]() She earned her Ph.D. in biology from UCLA with areas of specialization in animal behavior, communication, social conflict resolution, and gender differences. After a Smithsonian Post-doctoral Fellowship at the National Zoo in Washington, D.C., she returned to UCLA for two years as a research associate and lecturer. She was elected as a life member of the American Ornithologists Union (AOU), and belongs to the International Society for Human Ethology (ISHE), American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), Pacific Seabird Group (PSG), and two professional writers associations.
