War and Sex and Human Destiny book By Judith Hand
War is not an inescapable result of human nature! In this book, evolutionary biologist Judith Hand explores the subject of war from both a biological and anthropological perspective to explain why we can be sure that war is not something that is “in our genes.”

She uses the biological phenomenon called sexual dimorphism to explain why any attempt to end war that will endure must include the empowerment of women. This website's page entitled “Sexual Dimorphism” presents an excerpt explaining why male/female differences in critical biologically based emotional preferences, the results of natural selection,  are the reason why empowerment of women is a "necessary condition" for creating a war-free future.

Dr. Hand further describes two radical social changes in our behavior and priorities needed to create a global peace system, thereby freeing human and financial resources needed to pursue a global peace….and maintain it. And with respect to human destiny, War and Sex and Human Destiny addresses the titanic struggle now occurring globally between two titans of governing: patriarchy vs. liberal democracy.

Who are the intended readers, who would find War and Sex and Human Destiny a must-read book?

This small volume is written to be accessible to many readers. Any reader who is curious about war, from veterans who have personally seen or experienced war’s many harms to moms sending their children off to fight the next one. Anyone doing a research project on war or ending war, or social transformation activists in civil society and faith-based communities who want to have a broad perspective on what would be required to abolish war. Academics interested in human evolution and war, especially those in the fields of political science, anthropology, human evolutionary biology, and sociology, will find material relevant to their field that comes from an interdisciplinary perspective.

Certainly anyone interested in women’s studies should find this a must-read, cutting edge approach to the role of women in war and far beyond war: the role of women in creating safe, just, and nurturing communities in which to raise the future’s children. The second half of the book explains why natural selection on our two sexes produced men and women who, in general, have significantly different social preferences and priorities when it comes to using physical aggression to resolve conflicts and concern for children and community.

Reviews

“I raced through this book, War & Sex & Human Destiny, and found it to be one of the most, perhaps the most eye-opening BIG-picture persuasive books I’ve read in the past several years on the peace issue.  I totally enjoyed it. From observations re pop change to the many insights the author is able to provide due to her unique background into human nature (I liked the crack about hyper-alpha males “wagging the tale of civilization”). It is just a wonderful book.”  James T. Ranney, Adjunct Professor of Law, Widener University Law School, Author of World Peace Through Law: Replacing War with the Global Rule of Law.

“I have read your book 'War and Sex and Human Destiny' I think it is fantastic!
I would love to interview you for a radio show in NY called Equal Time for Freethought with WBAI 99.5.FM”   Jessica Schab, Writer, documentary filmmaker, President of Centre for Inquiry, Vancouver.

‘I read your book War and Sex and Human Destiny and agree with everything you wrote. How do we encourage more young women to run for elected office? Thank you for your remarkable book!”  Anne Hoiberg, San Diego Women’s Hall of Fame Activist, Creator of Structural Change 2012, activist-National Women’s Political Caucus.

"Judith Hand has laid out in this book a plan for the next great abolition movement, a movement both possible and necessary for the survival of human civilization. With the success of this movement to abolish war, we may discover that what we have heretofore called civilization, however, quickly begins to look primitive and destructive in comparison with what we are able to develop."
~ David Swanson, Activist, author of War Is A Lie and War No More: The Case for Abolition

"Men everywhere can learn the benefits to be gained by educating girls and uplifting women and change their behavior and our cultures accordingly, including acceptance of and the fostering of koinoniarchy. Women everywhere can learn the folly of deferring to men and rise up to secure decision-making positions from which to help build child-friendly, safe, nurturing communities. So, what adaptations will we make to the new full world we’ve created? It’s our destiny. Our choice."
